Thunderpoint 180 Results

Sproson and Faux win the TP180

The 2014 Thunderpoint 180 has been run with Lucas Sproson and Tanya Faux come out on top as deserving winners.  Sproson from Brighton, Victoria won with 10 laps of the course 6.9km course in a time of 3 hrs 3 min 42 sec.  Previous TP 180 winner Phillip Orr (Ballarat) had placed second behind Sproson with 10 laps in 3 hrs 8 min 58 sec with Craig Findlow (Hoppers Crossing) completing 9 laps in the 3 hour period.

Faux (Warrnambool), a new member of the club won the female 3hr category with 8 laps in 3 hrs 9 min 50 sec with Jude Jonasson in second with 7 laps 3 hrs 8 min 33 sec.

The team category change from last years 2hr event, to be a part of the 3 hr race.  This seem to be a success with teams demonstrating good results across the afternoon.  First place for the men's was Jeremy Evens and Jacob Lamb with 10 laps with Wally Lynch and Luke Robertson with 8 laps.  In the women's Colleen Hughson and Chelsea Fox complete 7 laps to win their category.

The 1 hour category is always a tough event as competitors are pushed for a sprint race with Paul Sagnol winning first ahead of Stephan Beaumont and Jake Dumnsey.  The under 17s in the one hour had good representation from the younger folk with Harrison Parker, Jack Webster and Joseph Clough taking out the placing all with 3 laps.

Overall, the event was well received with a village atmosphere, food and music around the club rooms.  Work has already commenced on next years event with early discussion how to better manage track conditions, avoid the heat of summer and getting the WMTBC profile out to a greater range of competitors.   Stay tune.

Many thanks to the Volunteers, especially the Race Director - Russell Cairns.  It was his birthday as well!

TP180 MTB Endurance Race – Online Entries at ENTRYZONE

Location: Thunder Point Trotting Track (McDonald St Warrnambool)
Date: Saturday 18th January 2014
Entry: Online at ENTRYZONE, close on 15th of January 2013.

Held for the first time in January 2012, this race in Warrnambool proved popular with local riders, national race teams and tourists in town for their summer holiday. This wide cross section of the riding community is a great example of mountain biking’s rapidly growing appeal.

The revamped circuit of about 6 km will once again take in a lap of the trotting track and each lap will see riders passing the clubrooms 3 times to give spectators a birds-eye view of the riders on each lap. The tight and technical track has had a heap of work done on it over the last 12 months – sure to impress and keep you on your toes.

The event will be held on Saturday afternoon in a family friendly atmosphere of food, music and games at the Harness Racing Trotting Club rooms. For out-of-towners, why not plan a weekend by the sea and enjoy everything Warrnambool has to offer. While you’re here, smash out a few laps of single track pleasure. You will love the trails, tight, twisty, rocks, roots, quick downhills, everything you need to have fun on 2 wheels.
